Welcome back after the Christmas break.
FOOS have lots of exciting events coming up this term, starting off with The Orton Fell Race.
Raffle tickets are now on sale, you will find some in your children's school bag.
There are some excellent prizes this year.
Tickets for the raffle are £1 each (£1 per number). Winners will be announced on race day, Saturday 23rd September. Please return your tickets and money to school. Extra tickets are available on request. If you won't be there on the day, please write your name and number on the back of each ticket.
The Orton Fell Race is a great day out for everyone and raises lots of funds for our school. There will be games, toys and crafts for the children and lots of tea and cake for everyone. Come and take part or cheer the runners on or get in touch if you can lend a hand.
Follow our Facebook page 'Friends of Orton School (FOOS)' for more updates.
Please remember PE kits.
We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to school afetr the summer break on Wednesday 6th September.
Breakfast and After School clubs will be available from Wednesday 6th.
We are looking for a few volunteers from our school community to help out with a couple of forthcoming events;
If you can help with any of these please let us know ASAP. Unfortunately, it cannot be a parent of children in Class 4.
Class 2 had an exciting morning visiting Kendal Fire Station. We got shown around the station, saw lots of kit on the Specialist Fire Engine, sprayed the huge hose and also heard the bell ring when the crew had a shout out and had to respond to a real life fire! The siren was so loud! It was such a fun morning seeing the Fire Fighters at work! Thank you to Kendal Fire Station for letting us stay for so long!
FOOS Calling all bakers! If you can, please bake some goodies for our FOOS Farmer's Market stall on Saturday 11th March. We will be selling the bulbs the children planted in the Autumn for Mothers Day. Last year was a sell out success and all of your delicious goodies were sold, generating some impressive and much needed funds for our school. Whole cakes, sliced cakes, muffins, buns, biscuits, flapjacks and tray bakes are all very welcome. Baked goodies can be brought into school on the Friday before or up to the Church on the Saturday. Write your name on any tins and we will return them to you. Thank you to Rebecca Shelton, Debra Capstick, Gill Abram and Megan Cotton-Dew for lending a hand on the day. If you have a spare hour or two to help set up, or man the stall, please let us know.
Recently our School Council met and discussed some of their ideas. One of the proposals were some school guinea pigs or rabbits!!! We have had school pets in the past but of course they are a long term commitment. We considered all the issues including the school council raising money for food, bedding and veterinary care. However before we could consider a commitment we would need to find a long term solution to their care at weekends and holidays. The school council asked us to put feelers out in the newsletter to see if any parents / community members would be willing to care for little furys when we are not in school. If there were several volunteers there could be a rota. Please let us know if you feel you could help
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
